micah 6:8

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has told you, o man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

--Micah 6:7-8

Is such the fast that I choose,
a day for a person to humble himself?
Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him?
Will you call this a fast,
and a day acceptable to the LORD?

Is this not the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
and to bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

--Isaiah 58: 5-7

It is God's desire that we should live out our faith through acts of justice and acts of righteousness in this world. We are to be his hands and feet, to administer justice, to heal the sick, cloth the naked, and to uphold the cause of the widow. But how many of our churches are doing that? how many of US, in OUR OWN LIVES, actively do these things?!

where is the church in our community, in our society?

where are the christians?

are we only to be found in our own churches and among our own friends? our christian activities and our own comfort zone?

If Jesus were here, he would not be in any of our churches. He would be sitting down at the CC talking to people, He would be representing some dispossessed and disenfranchised person to the MP. He would be chatting with the tissue paddlers. He would be healing the sick in the hospitals or in the one-room flats. He would be teaching about the gospel of hope and healing and love to people.

Which is very little of what I am doing in my own life.

I am always busy with my work, my life, my relationships, my entertainment. Why don't I have the energy to help people? Why am i not fulfilling my role as Jesus' hands and feet in this world? What am i doing here on earth?
