wives, submit to your husbands
Today at Elaine's wedding Pastor addressed the issue of 'submission', based on Ephesians 5. He corrected the common misconception that submission = agreeing without protest everything that the husband says and does, not questioning anything but following him blindly. Biblical submission calls for a helping and forgiving love-- the word the helpmate ezer is the word psalmist use to write about God as helper. That kinda helper cant be a lowly one!
I am also for thinking, and questioning critically the man's ideas and thoughts and actions rather than following blindly. That is not submission but blindness. How can one be a helper if one does not sharpen the other person, as iron sharpens iron? God is not a MCP.
What the submission calls out for women to do is to create a loving environment instead of being antagonistic. It is definitely possible to be critically sharpening the other person in the spirit of nurturing the other without being antagonistic.
We don't have to get antagonistic...we're mostly right anyways.
=D
